Organic crystalline nanofibers for the photonics and optoelectronics industries

A Danish university spin-out SME has developed and patented a revolutionary technology platform based on organic nanofibre for use in the photonics and optoelectronics industries. The SME is looking for actors within the solar cell industry or the security industry who are interested in using this technology for product development purposes through a licence agreement.

The technology produces a new class of nanoscaled, fiber-like materials made from simple organic molecules for use in the photonics and optoelectronics industries.
The materials are expected to become basic compounds of small, transparent and flexible solar cells, which in a few years time might be placed in, e.g., windows, and might provide power to indoor lighting among other things. Next generation solar cells will also generate power for other devices, which today only with great difficulty can be powered by solar energy. Mobile phones, laptops, cameras and other consumer electronics are some of them.
Furthermore, the materials can be used to develops products for product identification (anti-pirate products) and thus also target the security industry.

Nanofibers are a new type of organic material. Combined with certain other materials the nanofibers, popularly said, transform light into electricity. Because nano-scaled materials are concerned very promising properties are to be expected regarding demands on future solar cells with respect to efficiency, lifetime and production costs.
