Complex SMS compression, translation and text to speech technology

Our partner, a Hungarian SME has developed a new SMS compression / translation / text to speech software technology which can compress more than 500 characters into 70-character SMS messages. They are interested in a license agreement.

Background information:

Text Messages (SMS) is the most popular form of mobile communication. In a June 2010 US survey 64% of respondents stated they use their cell phones primarily to send text messages. While the total number of sent messages in 2001 was 250 billion, in 2004 it doubled to 500 billion. In 2009, worldwide SMS revenue stood at a staggering USD 102.3 billion and surpassed USD 109 billion by the end of 2010. In 2009 worldwide SMS traffic topped 5 trillion messages, and that figure is set to exceed 10 trillion in 2013. This impressive growth shows no sign of waning.

Innovation of the technology:

The technology is a patented SMS compression / translation / text to speech software technology which can compress more than 500 characters into 70-character SMS messages. The compression algorithm is tailored to each specific language and has been optimized for 31 languages with additional language optimizations in development. The technology can perform automatic translation of messages based on the user’s locale and mobile device settings. Translation mappings have already been completed on seven languages. Additional language mappings are under development. The offered technology reconstructs the audio using high quality audio samples and reconstructs the audio “phonically” to create natural sounding dialect and locale correct voices. It is extremely efficient both in terms of required processing power an on-device footprint thus making it an ideal solution even for low end devices, furthermore it does not require any internet connection.
